The UFC 278 prelim card features four bouts, all of which will be previewed in this post. It will be capped by a pivotal bout between heavyweight contenders, Marcin Tybura and Alexandr Romanov (pictured above). All win probabilities are based on a fighter’s CC Rating and their place in the CC Rankings.

AJ Fletcher vs. Ange Loosa (Men’s Welterweight)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Both contender series alumni are coming off disappointing losses in their UFC debuts. Fletcher is a little more well-rounded fighter, whereas Loosa will come in boasting a significant seven-inch reach advantage. He also has powerful hands. This’ll make it difficult for Fletcher to close the distance. If he can, it’s his fight, but Loosa might very well shut the lights out first.
Editor’s Pick: Loosa
Sean Woodson vs. Luis Saldana (Men’s Featherweight)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Woodson comes in 3-1 in the UFC, but has not lost when fighting at 145 pounds. His only defeat was a catchweight bout at 150 pounds. He’s fought as high as 185 pounds in his career. He’ll have a size advantage. What Saldana will have is a power advantage. Woodson’s boxing background and striking precision should mitigate this en route to a decision win, or a KO if Saldana is careless chasing a finish of his own.
Editor’s Pick: Woodson
Jared Gordon vs. Leonardo Santos (Men’s Lightweight)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Santos has had a storied career. He started his UFC stint on a 7-0-1 run. However, there was a three-year hiatus tucked in there, and after losing each of his last two, it seems Father Time has caught up to the 42 year-old. Gordon has fought some of the best, including a loss to former (and some would argue current) champ, Charles Oliveira (#1 CC, #1 UFC). Gordon should be able to outlast Santos, who’s shown almost no cardio. Gordon can then loop that into a late finish of some sort.
Editor’s Pick: Gordon
[10] Marcin Tybura vs. [8] Alexandr Romanov (Men’s Heavyweight)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Tybura (#10 CC, #11 UFC) looked on his way to potential title contention after a long journey, but his five fight winning streak snapped his last time out. He has fought a veritable who’s who of the heavyweight division in his six and a half years in the promotion. And, he’s been active, as this is his 16th fight in that span. However, Romanov (#8 CC, #13) is coming in on an absolute tear. The only time he’s failed to win by finish was when an eye poke forced the fight to go to a technical decision. Tybura is by far the strongest opponent he’s faced, but he should have the skill set to overwhelm the veteran.
Editor’s Pick: Romanov
