UFC Fight Night (Luque vs. Muhammad) Preview: Main Card

The UFC Vegas 51 main card features six bouts. It is capped by a pivotal welterweight showdown between top contenders Vicente Luque (pictured above left) and Belal Muhammad (pictured above right). All win probabilities are based on a fighter’s CC Rating and their place in the CC Rankings.

You can find the previews for the prelim fights HERE and HERE.

Mounir Lazzez vs. Ange Loosa (Men’s Welterweight)

Mounir Lazzez

  • Record: 10-2-0
  • Division Ranking: 64/80 welterweights
  • Vegas Odds: -220 (Favorite)

Ange Loosa

  • Record: 8-2-0
  • Division Ranking: 70/80 welterweights
  • Vegas Odds: +180 (Underdog)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Lazzez is a very talented striker, as he showed in his impressive debut against Abdul Razak Alhassan. Loosa may not be as technical, but he has easy KO power. Lazzez’s weakness will be on the ground, but Loosa does not pose much of a threat in that department. Add to the fact that Loosa is coming in on four days’ notice, Lazzez should take this one easily.

Editor’s Pick: Lazzez

Pat Sabatini vs. TJ Laramie (Men’s Featherweight)

Pat Sabatini

  • Record: 16-3-0
  • Division Ranking: 26/74 featherweights
  • Vegas Odds: -490 (Favorite)

TJ Laramie

  • Record: 12-4-0
  • Division Ranking: 73/74 featherweights
  • Vegas Odds: +370 (Underdog)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Laramie will be fighting to stay out of the basement of the CC featherweight rankings. He hasn’t won in almost two years. Sabatini will be the much longer fighter, with a four inch reach advantage. He can use that to mitigate Laramie’s striking and potentially get the fight to the ground against a weak grappler.

Editor’s Pick: Sabatini

Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Wu Yanan (Women’s Bantamweight)

Mayra Bueno Silva

  • Record: 7-2-1
  • Division Ranking: 17/29 bantamweights
  • Vegas Odds: -490 (Favorite)

Wu Yanan

  • Record: 11-4-0
  • Division Ranking: 21/29 bantamweights
  • Vegas Odds: +370 (Underdog)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: It’s been nearly four years since Yanan won a fight. She’s only fought three times since 2017. Silva has been challenged in her UFC tenure, but has squared off with some of the best the flyweight division has to offer. Now, she comes back to her natural weight class at bantamweight, looking for some momentum.

Editor’s Pick: Bueno Silva

Miguel Baeza vs. Andre Fialho (Men’s Welterweight)

Miguel Baeza

  • Record: 10-2-0
  • Division Ranking: 48/80 welterweights
  • Vegas Odds: -160 (Favorite)

Andre Fialho

  • Record: 14-4-0
  • Division Ranking: 68/80 welterweights
  • Vegas Odds: +135 (Underdog)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Baeza has come down from his early UFC cloud after a KO loss to Khaos Williams in his last bout. Baeza is as entertaining as they come and has grappling skills to compete with anyone. Fialho, though, went the distance with Michel Pereira on very short notice in his debut, and looked like he might have won for a little. With a full camp and better hands, look for Fialho to surprise some people.

Editor’s Pick: Fialho

Caio Borralho vs. Gadzhi Omargadzhiev (Men’s Middleweight)

Caio Borralho

  • Record: 10-1-0
  • Division Ranking: 44/71 middleweights
  • Vegas Odds: +100 (Underdog)

Gadzhi Omargadzhiev

  • Record: 13-0-0
  • Division Ranking: 31/71 middleweights
  • Vegas Odds: -120 (Favorite)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: This is a fascinating matchup of styles between two debut fighters coming from Dana White’s Contender Series. Borralho is a jiujitsu specialist whereas Omargadzhiev is a wrestler. Borralho has the advantage on the feet, but the Russian will sport the better offensive takedown skills.

Editor’s Pick: Omargadzhiev

[1] Vicente Luque vs. [6] Belal Muhammad (Men’s Welterweight)

Vicente Luque

  • Record: 21-7-1
  • Division Ranking: 2/80 welterweights
  • Vegas Odds: -170 (Favorite)

Belal Muhammad

  • Record: 20-3-0
  • Division Ranking: 7/80 welterweights
  • Vegas Odds: +145 (Underdog)

Subjective Spin on Objective Reality: Luque (#1 CC, #5 UFC) is one of the hottest welterweights on the planet right now. He has finishes in each of his last four fights and is winner of ten of his last eleven. He also sports a win over Muhammad (#6 CC, #6 UFC) in their first matchup at UFC 205. Muhammad is at a deficiency in the striking and will rely on his wrestling. But, Luque also has eight career submissions. He’s a threat in all facets. There’s a reason Luque occupies the #1 contender spot in the CC rankings.

Editor’s Pick: Luque
